The Greening of Corporate Fleets Initiative

Leaseurope influences the European Commission on the greening of corporate fleets.

In April 2024, DG MOVE of the European Commission launched its public consultation on the greening of corporate fleets.  The consultation explores a range of measures that could accelerate the greening of corporate fleets. Generally, the European Commission aims to establish a policy framework that incentivises the acceleration of the introduction of low and zero emitting vehicles on Europe’s roads, as part of the Green Deal Package. One of the main solutions under consideration in the consultation is the introduction of a mandatory EV purchase requirement for corporate fleets.

The established position of Leaseurope has been that only a holistic approach that spans policy, regulation, fiscal, funding and incentive-demand measures, can address such a complex transition. To facilitate the transition Leaseurope highlights the need to focus as a priority on enabling conditions and to address several long-standing issues to widespread electric vehicle uptake. These issues include vehicle availability, vehicle affordability, accelerated private and public charging, grid capacity and power to site, as well as t very diverse customer use-cases across businesses, both small and large across the European Union. Our advocacy urges policy makers to shy away from ideologically driven hard mandates that would most likely  result in outcomes opposite to those the Commission is aiming to achieve.
